Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's first title following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after March of 2023.

Victory also means he has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters together, so to get a title is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He rescued 4 early chances in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
